KRYPT is the heart of youth theatre at the Rose. Our full Company stands at around 35 young actors, divided into our Junior or Senior Company by age. Every Saturday during term time, our brilliant youngsters meet and enjoy being creative together. Using scripts, devising, games and improvisation, members are given lots of opportunities to share and develop their skills and talents. Everybody is welcome at KRYPT; there are no auditions to join the group, and the only requirements are enthusiasm, encouragement and celebration of one another's achievements.
Both groups perform in a shared production at Christmas time and each produce an extra production throughout the year. Recent full-company productions include family favourites like Five Children and It and Alice in Wonderland; while many of our productions are family-oriented, we do like to challenge our Senior Company with more complex material. Though we do not produce musicals, we have been known to tackle the occasional pantomime at Christmas! KRYPT sessions are led by our core team of experienced practitioners who are all resident members of the Nonentities Society.
The KRYPT Company are lucky to be able to perform at the Rose Theatre, a wonderful theatre space with a studio and a main house auditorium. The Nonentities, the resident amateur dramatic society, perform a huge range of productions with great success, and occasionally some of our members are able to participate in these productions when a younger actor is required. At age 18, youth theatre members can stay with KRYPT until the end of the academic year, when they are fully encouraged to join the Nonentities Society.
Aside from our regular KRYPT Company, we offer additional spaces at our annual Summer School, KRYPTfest. Taking place in the first week of school holidays, we welcome both current and new actors into our Summer Company. Throughout the week, we work together to produce a series of scenes on a set theme; in recent years, we have explored Comedy and Tragedy, the Works of William Shakespeare, and Twisted Storytelling. The week culminates in a triumphant sharing of our work with family and friends.
Both of our KRYPT groups are currently full, but if you would like to join, please click here. Once your form is submitted, your name will automatically be added to our waiting list. When you are nearing the top, you will be invited to a taster session so that prospective members can get a taste of what KRYPT is all about. If participant, parents and staff are all happy that KRYPT is a good fit, you'll be invited to join as soon as a space becomes avaiable.
The cost of sessions is a set fee for each half term (see below) and must be paid at the start of each half term.
Saturdays 10.30am-1pm | AGES 13-18 | (£81 per half term) |
Saturdays 2pm-4pm | AGES 8-12 | (£65 per half term) |
