Kidderminster Rose young People’s Theatre (KRYPT) meets every Saturday during term time and is divided into two groups. Junior Group (Buds) is for young people aged 8-12 and Senior Group (Blooms) is for young people aged 13-18.
The youth theatre work towards putting on shows on a regular basis with each group having at least one opportunity per year to perform on The Rose Theatre main stage. During the weekly sessions the members are given lots of opportunities to share and develop their skills and talents. We work in a range of different ways depending upon the needs of the group and the particular show we are doing but all group members develop an understanding and appreciation of what it takes to be a performer from the very first read through of a script to the first night of a show. In addition to this they are expected to be supportive and encouraging of each other and we place great emphasis on creating a safe space so that members feel comfortable exploring ideas and contributing to the creative process. We don’t always work with a script, we often do improvisations that develop into devised pieces or plays and we are open to working in whatever way we think will benefit the groups.
Our group sizes are small with 20 members in the Senior group and 15 in the Junior group. This enables us to get to know each member as an individual and to really see where their talents lie. Each group has a leader and an assistant and we bring in specialist artists from other art forms such as dance or music, where necessary.
