About KRYPT

Welcome to KRYPT – Kidderminster Rose Young People’s Theatre!

KRYPT is divided into two groups (according to age) and meets every Saturday during term time at the theatre. Each group is led by an experienced youth theatre leader and an assistant. The groups perform in a shared production at Christmas time and each produce an extra production throughout the year. The senior group has a maximum of 20 members and the junior group has a maximum of 15 so we can work in a very individual way with everyone who attends.

During the weekly sessions, the members are given lots of opportunities to share and develop their skills and talents. We work in a range of different ways depending upon the needs of the group and the particular show we are rehearsing – we do often use scripts but we also improvise, devise, and use foundations from games and role plays to develop our work.

KRYPT is a safe space for members to explore their ideas and contribute to the group. We are so proud that each and every one of our members is supportive and encouraging towards the rest of the group, allowing everybody to come out of their comfort zones and try new and exciting things.

Our members are lucky to be able to perform at the Rose Theatre, a wonderful theatre space with a studio and a main house auditorium. The Nonentities, the resident amateur dramatic society, perform a huge range of productions with great success, and our members benefit from watching and learning from these actors. When KRYPT members reach 16, they can choose to join The Nonentities and leave the youth theatre or they can do stay on and do both! At age 18, youth theatre members can stay with KRYPT until the end of the academic year, when they are fully encouraged to join the Nonentities Society.

The youth theatre is currently full but if you would like to join, please click on the link ‘Application Form’. Once your form is submitted, your name will automatically be added to our waiting list and you will be contacted when a space becomes available.

N.B We do not have the staff to perform musicals so if that is a special interest to you, you may wish to look at other organisations.
