Youth Theatre

Welcome to the website for Kidderminster Rose Young People’s Theatre (KRYPT)

KRYPT is divided into two groups (according to age) and meets every Saturday during term time at the theatre, including the first Saturday of each half term and holiday.

Each group is led by an experienced youth theatre leader and an assistant. We do a production/sharing twice a year and bring in specialist artists from time to time. The senior group has a maximum of 20 members and the junior group has a maximum of 15 so we can work in a very individual way with everyone who attends.

During the weekly sessions, the members are given lots of opportunities to share and develop their skills and talents. We work in a range of different ways depending upon the needs of the group and the particular show we are rehearsing but all group members develop an understanding and appreciation of what it takes to be a performer from the very first read through of a script to the first night of a show. In addition to this, they are expected to be supportive and encouraging of each other and we place great emphasis on creating a safe space so that members feel comfortable exploring ideas and contributing to the creative process. We don't always work with a script, we often do improvisations that develop into devised pieces or plays and we are open to working in whatever way we think will benefit the groups.

N.B We do not have the staff to perform musicals so if that is a special interest to you, you may wish to look at other organisations.

The Rose Theatre is a wonderful theatre space with a studio and a main house auditorium. The resident amateur dramatic society ‘The Nonentities’ have recently appeared with the RSC in their production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ to great acclaim. When youth theatre members reach 16, they can choose to join The Nonentities and leave the youth theatre or they can do stay on and do both! At age 18 youth theatre members can stay with KRYPT until the end of the academic year.

The youth theatre is currently full but if you would like to join, please click on the link ‘Application Form’. Once your form is submitted, your name will automatically be added to our waiting list and you will be contacted when a space becomes available.
