About the show

Written in 1956, this drama is acknowledged as spawning the ‘angry young man’ term which was to define a new direction of realism and harshness in theatre. The first of the ‘kitchen sink’ dramas of that decade, the story centres on Jimmy Porter, a disaffected but intelligent working class man. Married to the impassive, upper class Alison, and living in a small cramped flat, Jimmy vents his frustrations out on those around him-with shocking and far reaching consequences.
