Mime Notes for Members
ROSE SEASON 2016-2017
1. MURDERED TO DEATH (MAIN HOUSE) (1940'S)
The play introduces the inept and bungling Inspector Pratt, who battles against the odds and his own incompetence to solve the murder of the house's owner. It soon becomes clear that the murderer isn't finished yet; will the miscreant be unmasked before everyone else has met their doom or will the audience die laughing first?
2. MACBETH (MAIN HOUSE) * (CONTEMPORARY)
Macbeth is Shakespeare's shortest tragedy, and tells the story of a brave Scottish general named Macbeth who receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia, and he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler as he is forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the realms of arrogance, madness, and death.
3. GOD OF CARNAGE (STUDIO) (MODERN)
What happens when two sets of parent's meet up to deal with the unruly behaviour of their children? A calm and rational debate between grown-ups about the need to teach kids how to behave properly? Or a hysterical night of name-calling, tantrums and tears before bedtime? Boys will be boys, but the adults are usually worse - much worse.
4. WOMAN IN WHITE (MAIN HOUSE) (VICTORIAN)
Sir Percival Glyde, who is being hounded for money by the sinister Count Fosco, marries the heiress Laura Fairlie for her fortune. As events unfold, Glyde's efforts to secure the money - and also to remove the threat to his reputation posed by the unfortunate Anne Catherick - become more desperate and cruel. Combined with this tale of disturbing intrigue are elements of romance and comedy: the resulting mix is headily entertaining.
5. ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS (MAIN HOUSE) * (1960's)
Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe, a small time East End hood, now in Brighton to collect £6,000 from the dad of his fiancee. But Roscoe is really his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who has been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Holed up at The Cricketers Arms, the permanently ravenous Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a second job with one Stanley Stubbers, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be reunited with Rachel. To prevent discovery, Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Simple.
6. Blithe Spirit (MAIN HOUSE)
In 2017 the Nonentites celebrate their 80th birthday - and to mark this marvellous milestone each play in the 2017-2018 season will feature a play from each decade the Nonentities have been performing. We kick off the new decades' season with the classic supernatural comedy Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward. Written in 1941, it remained the longest running comedy in British theatre for three decades. “Blithe Spirit†revolves around Charles, an author, who is planning a seance as research for his new book. He invites an eccentric medium, Madam Arcati, into his home, intending to expose her as a fraud. To witness this event, Charles and his second wife, Ruth, invite the sceptical Dr. Bradman and his anxious-to-believe wife, Violet. When, in the course of the seance, Madam Arcati mistakenly summons Charles' first wife, Elvira, back from the beyond, things get thoroughly out of hand with hilarious results!

Dad's Army Provisional Casting
We are delighted to announce the PROVISIONAL casting for "Dad's Army", 6th - 11th June 2016, 1st rehearsal 18th April. We say "provisional" simply because it is very difficult to be sure at this stage of both availability and suitability for some of the male roles so things may yet change! Surprisingly we do not have enough actors of the right age - range to fit all the parts so we intend to experiment at a fun reading early in the new year and give people the opportunity to perhaps try some different roles to which they are normally accustomed.
